Established in 1572 and has a population nearing 50,000 and boarders with Candaleria to the North and Palauig South.
This was one of the early Capitols of Zambales under the Spanish, due to its safe harbour.
The area was also extensively mined for Chromite up till the late 1900's and had a rail line from the mine area to the substantial wharf area in the harbour.
It also houses a power station.

Tourist attractions:

Islands:

There are 3 major islands located in Masinloc bay, the largest being San Salvador, which offers the bay protection from bad weather and typhoons, the others are Matalvis and Agat.
There was an expansive wharf area on Matalvis point that was very important during WWII and used by the Japanese to bring supplies to their forces who were moving from their landing point in Lingayen gulf, this was extensivly bombed by Allied forfes and little of it remains today.

Mountain resorts:

There are 2 mountain resorts in the area, Kidz pool, which is located high in the mountains on the site of the old Koto Chromite Mine. Thus, offers amazing crystal clear waters, spring waters and a man made waterfall, this was created by dirverting water from higher in the river that used to feed the washing plant of the mine. It is also not unusual to encounter local wildlife within the area.
The other is located in Brgy. Baloganon and houses a number of swimming pools.

Marine Eco parks:

Near San Salvadore Island, the Municipal Office have an Eco park for the breeding of Giant clam. You can get boats that will give you a tour of the area.

Oyon Bay is now also a marine reserve; however, this are was damaged by fish cafes in the 1900's which destroyed much of the extensive sea grass beds that were the home of Dugongs.
